2025-2026 Rothman Orthopaedic Institute- Research Fellowship for Medical Students (Joints, Shoulder & Elbow, Hand, Sports and Foot & Ankle)

Rothman Orthopaedic Institute invites medical students to apply for a funded one-year clinical research fellowship, starting in the summer of 2025. Rothman Orthopaedic Institute values superior patient care, excellence in education, and research productivity. In line with these goals, we are seeking driven and self-motivated students that are interested in pursuing a career in Orthopaedic Surgery. Preference will be given to students who have completed their 3rd year of medical school. The opportunity requires strong interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively across a broad spectrum of individuals, and elite-level organizational skills.

Drs. Mark Cohen, John Fernandez, Robert Wysocki, and Xavier Simcock together comprise the Hand/Upper Extremity Division at Rush University/Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. They are academic orthopedic surgeons specializing in care of the hand, wrist, and elbow. Our division has a unique expertise in management of elbow pathology from simple to complex, with more robust elbow clinical and research programs than most programs in the country.

2025-2026 Rush University Sports Medicine Clinical Research Fellowship - Dr. Nikhil Verma and Dr. Jorge Chahla

Dr. Nikhil Verma, Rush's Sports Medicine Fellowship director, and Dr. Jorge Chahla, director of biomechanical research, together invite US medical students to submit an application for a competitive clinical research fellowship at Rush University. Our team provides the unique opportunity to work for two thought leaders in orthopedic sports medicine, both of whom are seeking forward-thinking, self-driven students to advance their interests in orthopedic medicine by working in a fast-paced clinical research group determined to produce high quality, novel research. Research fellows will also work closely in the clinic with prominent orthopaedic attending surgeons, residents, fellows, medical students and faculty.

Title: University of Utah Pediatric and Adult Sports Medicine Research Fellowship – Steve Aoki, MD

Dr. Stephen K. Aoki invites 3^rd and 4^th year medical students interested in orthopaedic surgery to apply for a one-year sports medicine research fellowship. At this time, we are only considering students from United States accredited MD programs. This is a full-time, paid position with the University of Utah. This fellowship is focused on pediatric and adult hip and knee research. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis with an anticipated decision in February/March 2025. Early applications are encouraged.

Rothman Orthopaedics Florida at AdventHealth in Orlando, Florida is hiring four highly motivated medical students (Third and Fourth Year) to participate in orthopedic surgery clinical research for a 1-year position for the 2025-2026 academic year. Each research intern will be assigned to an orthopedic service department and will work closely with the residents, fellows, and attendings. Research Interns must comply with AdventHealth standard research credentialing before officially starting the position.

The Jackie and Randy Baker Research Fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery is being offered by the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. This program is designed to provide a one to two year mentored research experience in orthopaedic clinical science (hip preservation and total joint replacement).

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh-UPMC invites medical students between their third and fourth years, to apply for the 2025-2026 BMRC Orthopaedic Surgery Clinical Research Fellowship. This paid position provides a unique opportunity to collaborate with distinguished faculty, gaining invaluable clinical and research experience that enhances the fellow’s ability to match into an orthopaedic surgery residency. The fellowship begins in Spring/Summer 2025. 

Dr. Scott D. Martin is currently inviting pre-medical students and graduates to apply for a Clinical Research Assistant position in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), a Harvard teaching hospital.

This is an extremely competitive position that is awarded to two to three (2-3) recent college graduates or current graduate students who have demonstrated a keen interest in orthopaedics and are competitive candidates for medical school.

This research position is unique in that the research assistant interacts with a nationally-recognized orthopaedic surgeon on a consistent basis. Furthermore, this position is unique in that it provides the opportunity to be mentored in a clinical setting; to learn and hone clinical exam skills; and to attend lectures and conferences with orthopaedic residents and faculty.
