Dr. Brian Forsythe is seeking bright, ambitious medical students who are interested in pursuing a full-time, paid, one-year clinical research fellowship. Dr. Forsythe is faculty of the renowned Division of Sports Medicine at Rush University, Chicago, IL. He has been working with Clinical Research Fellows for more than 5 years. Alumni from the Forsythe Research group have gone on to successfully match in world-class residency programs, including Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program, and Rush University Orthopedic Residency Program.
Drs. Mark Cohen, John Fernandez, Robert Wysocki and Xavier Simcock together comprise the Hand/Upper Extremity Division at Rush University/Midwest Orthopedics at Rush. They are academic orthopedic surgeons specializing in care of the hand, wrist, and elbow. Our division has a unique expertise in management of elbow pathology from simple to complex, with more robust elbow clinical and research programs than most programs in the country.

We are seeking ambitious medical students to apply for a one- to two-year paid research fellowship in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. This is a full-time research fellowship that will provide highly-motivated applicants with significant opportunity for publication, implementation and design of new research projects, networking, and shadowing. This is a tremendous opportunity for students taking a gap year to strengthen their applications to medical school or residency.
Research will primarily focus on outcome collection for surgical patients in the following divisions: hand, joints, shoulder and elbow, sports medicine, and trauma. Research assistants will work under the direction of a Henry Ford Health senior staff physician in their respective division.

Dr. Brett Owens is seeking an ambitious 3rd-year medical student who is interested in a year-long fellowship in the field of sports medicine to strengthen his/her application for orthopaedic residency, expose the fellow to academic research, and enhance research skills. 4th-year medical students may also apply, but priority will be given to students between their 3rd and 4th years of medical school.
The fellow will be directly involved in all facets of the research process including, roles in managing clinical trials, development of study questions, literature review, study design, IRB approvals, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, writing of manuscripts, and preparation of presentations. The position will allow the research fellow to work closely with residents, fellows, and faculty and have the opportunity for extensive publication and presentation of research.
