2014-2015 Rejection & Waitlist Thread

For the Michigan waitlist, was your e-mail explicit? I received an e-mail saying "at this time we are not able to offer you an interview." That's a bit up in the air, but reads more like a rejection to me.

Mine was a more clear rejection. It said what yours said, i.e. "at this time we are not able to offer you an interview," but then it said, "I wish you the best of luck in the application process, and success in pursuing your career as an Orthopaedic Surgeon." I took that as a closed-book rejection.

Yeah, it said I was on the waitlist. It said something like "although we have filled our interview slots, we have placed you on a waitlist in the event we have cancellations."

+1 It was clear that I was waitlisted. I've had the same problem. Some emails leave it a little bit up in the air, if it isn't completely clear I count it as a rejection though.

Does anyone know how often those on the waitlist are offered interviews? I have a few but I'm not holding my breath on getting an invite.

It's pretty common to be offered an interview from the waitlist, from some of the older guys I've talked to. As you can see, a ton of the interviews are on the same date, but people usually accept their interviews anyway, even if they already have an interview on that day. It's common for people to cancel last minute, and as a result, you might get an interview invite with only a day or two notice.

Just to add more variety to the Michigan waitlist messages, my email said I was "near the top" of the waitlist and there is a "high likelihood" of receiving an interview invite. It also said that about ~1/2 of the waitlist typically receives interviews at some point.
