Replied by on topic I was looking through the

I was looking through the last years Interview invite forum and some schools seem to only sent out invites once (ie. Pitts) if you don't get an invite from them does that mean you won't get one at all???

I was wondering about his as well, or do programs send out invites on a rolling basis?

Thanks

G

Replied by on topic Many of the programs send
Many of the programs send invites out on a 'rolling' basis.. but not in a traditional sense.

1. They review the applications in groups (lets say they have 450 total) ie they do 150 at a clip..and send out invites for their each specific date.
2. Other programs essentially rank everyone. They send out a bunch of invites say rank 1-100..not everyone will reply..some will cancel, etc. etc.. then they go down the list as spots open up. Now, some people ahve the logic "well, such and such program gave me an invite right away, and this program only sent me an invite when a spot opened up..that must mean I'm at the bottom of the list, so I should choose to interview at the program invited me first"... this logic is incorrect. The fact is, candidates are so alike, that it is VERY hard to rank applicants in some kind of order. As a result, many people don't get interviews.. by chance. So, you could very well be competitive in a programs eyes.. you just had bad luck...but things are a changin' if you get an invite. Plus, even if you are #100 on the ranked list.. that doesn't mean jack.. many programs place high emphasis on the interview. So, in the end.. just choose a place that you want to goto.

Ahh so glad I don't have to do this anymore! good luck!
