Is anyone able to switch with me at UCLA: my January 10th for your January 24th. Send me a personal message. Thanks a bunch.

So, for a lot of these places, I haven't heard from the program yet either way. Given the fact that a lot of these places have already sent out interviews, I'm assuming that it is a bad thing no?

Replied by on topic yeah, i figure that 1)
yeah, i figure that 1) I will never hear from these programs, ie get an official rejection or 2) get offered a "second-wave" interview which, in my mind, doesn't seem all that attractive.

i've heard some programs never send out official rejection letters, and i've heard that some programs have unofficial waitlists (ones they don't tell us about), so trying to distinguish between which category you fall in to is impossible.

Replied by orthopuppy on topic It's likely bad, but not
It's likely bad, but not a 100% guarantee. If the interview is in a few days, then chances are it's a rejection. However, if the interview is maybe 10 days or more in advance, there's still a chance you could receive an interview invitation. I know someone who was invited off a waiting list about 2 weeks before an interview, and he's now a PGY-2 at that same program. It's not over until a) they tell you "Thanks, but no thanks", or b) the interview dates are already over.

Don't forget, chances are your interviewers don't know if you were a "second-waver", so your chances may be just as good either way.

Good luck!
