This whole process has been very frustrating. To answer all of the peoples questions about USMLE. The 230 cutoff is for real at >95% of programs. This year particularly most programs have set a cutoff of even higher. I have heard this from the Dean of my medical school, who has talked to different programs. I have a 228/92, am AOA, and am having a very hard time getting interviews. I say this to let other people know. I am still waiting on a lot but after having read othe peoples replies am not holding my breath.

I would like to wish everyone the best of luck.

Replied by on topic FYI - cutoffs
I don't mean to step on toes but the 230 Step 1 cutoff is largely, in my opinion, a myth. Certainly, if it does exist, it is flexible based on additional info (AOA status, Step 2, LOR's, interesting experiences on your resume). Sub-230 Step 1 is NOT a death sentence.

I say this only because I have a Step 1 of 220 and have received more than 20 interview offers, at least three from allegedly "top tier, numbers-focused" programs.

I would not have posted this at all, but I remember looking at Orthogate last year with a 220, convinced I would struggle to achieve the Magic #10 interviews. That is not the case. You can make yourself stand out in other ways.

Replied by on topic Exactly. If this whole cutoff of
Exactly.

If this whole cutoff of 230 topic also rubs you the wrong way, then please post some of your information in the new "cutoff" thread intended to finally debunk this ridiculous myth. Dr. Hibbert - you're info could be very useful to future applicants, so please share what you feel comfortable doing so.
