Instratek, a privately held medical device company focused on minimally invasive endoscopic surgery and extremity implants, announced the domestic launch of the HammerFIT Extremity Reamer System for hammertoe surgery. HammerFIT is a sterile, single-use reaming system that contains cup and cone bone reamers which are used to create convex and concave surfaces during hammertoe surgery. Once the reamers have been used to resurface the bones of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint, the surgeon may use their arthrodesis implant of choice. Utilizing cup and cone reamers aids in fusion by maximising bony contact surface area. HammerFIT reamers may be used for all hammertoe procedures regardless of implant choice.

Lucideon, the international materials technology company, has announced that it has extended its collaboration agreement with the Hong Kong Standards and Testing Centre (STC) to include wear testing of orthopaedic hip and knee implants. The new agreement capitalises on the expertise of both companies in providing testing and analysis services to the medical device sector. It will also allow Asian orthopaedic implant manufacturers who export to the EU to have their products tested by an accredited European test house. The collaboration builds on the work that the two companies have done over the past decade, providing testing of ceramic and glass tableware and tiles in Hong Kong and China.
