What if Step 2 < Step 1 score? was created by peterubers
I already searched this unsuccessfully, so no flames please.

Curious to know if in G-E-N-E-R-A-L it's not as advantageous to have a lower step 2 score than step 1. I totally understand that there are no forumulas to getting into ortho residencies, and no guarantees about anything, but I'd like anyone's honest input about this. Thanks in advance.

You mean after you've matched? The advice I've heard is that as long as you pass the score does not matter.

Actually I mean before I match ... I want to take my step 2 before I interview b/c I feel I'll do best on it right after my core rotations end this summer. So I'm wondering if it's a bout 10-15 pts less than my Step 1 .. will that negatively reflect on me?

What up,

Step I 233, Step II 212. I matched last year and not once did my scores come up. The closest thing was "I see you did excellent/very well on your boards." If you did well on Step I and you put half an effort into Step II you'll make it a non-issue (even if Step II is lower.)

You can take the deuce early and not post your scores if you don't want to - they ask you on the application if you want to release your scores and you don't have to if you don't want to. On 17 or so interviews I was asked once if I had taken step II and my step I was not ridiculous (238).
