A couple of things. First of all, I agree with Hapless Hack. As a resident, you are either splinting, scrubbing in, hanging traction, ie things that can ruin a watch like this. Plus you always have a pager and/or a cell phone. Second, I don't think anyone needs a watch this expensive. Especially with med school debt.
All that being said, I do own a Speedmaster Professional (I definitely didn't buy it. Let's just say I have awesome in-laws). There are a few things you should probably know. This watch is not an automatic, that means that you have to wind it every day. Second, it's not waterproof. Can't go to the beach or pool with it. Other than that, it's a quality watch. Looks good. It has the cache of being the only watch worn on the moon and still the only watch approved by NASA for EVA. Plus it's different from Tag and Rolex.
So, if you have the money burning a hole in your pocket, it's as good a watch as any, unless you were planning to use it as a dive watch.
