Orthopaedic Essentials Series was created by eastcoastbones
Has anyone has positive experiences with the Orthopaedic Essentials Series? Can these replace the bigger textbooks we slave over?

For those who don't know, its a series of 6 books, each one devoted to a specific subspecialty. (Editor: Paul Tornetta)

I flipped through the 'Foot and Ankle' edition we have in our ortho library and found to be quite concise and useful. Is it worth it to put down >$500 for the whole set?

Thanks.

Overall, I'm not a fan.

The series come heavily recommended at my institution, but from my personal experience, I find them to be too general and not contain high yield information.

Having said that, I think Foot and Ankle and Pediatrics are the best books in that set and are actually worth the read. Trauma and Arthroplasty, I found to be a complete waste of time.

I borrowed the spine one from the library and had a look at the hand one. I have the paeds and trauma one. I didnt like them as the chapters were written by different people and the editors didnt try and synthesise the text therefore there is much repetition between the chapters. Furthermore the illustrations aren't very useful and I wouln't recommend them much.
The trauma one is a bit better with some useful summaries of recent studies, etc. (see the tibial nailing section).

Overall borrow one from library before you commit - you may not like them
