Hey, I recently worked with the author on an away rotation and he showed me this new book he and someone else spent 3 years working on. This book will be standard for most medical students doing Ortho rotations from now on.
Gloved and Gowned (also available for gen surg), is really great stuff. It basically takes you into the OR and tells you what you will be seeing and doing. For example, a hip fracture. The book talks about nails vs. hemis. The book shows you the relevant anatomy, covers the pathology, and the surgical indications. Then it covers how the patient will be positioned, and everything, step by step, from the incision to the closure. It shows bullet points that are common Attending questions and even describe what anatomical structure you will be holding the retractor on.
This is really excellent stuff and although I am on approaching the end of med school, I really wish I had had this book earlier. Even now it is helpful on away rotations.
I highly recommend this book, you will not be disappointed. One word of caution though, the book is mostly for people who really want to be involved in the OR. If you have no interest and just want to pass surg, I wouldn't worry about it and stick to more Shelf-exam oriented books like BRS Surg and NMS Casebook.
