Agreed--seems to be getting more competitive. Any idea which programs had remaining open spots?

Yeah. BMC, Geisinger and Cooper. That’s it. Last year there were like 30 un-filled spots after the match.

It's all very cyclical. Some years are more competitive than others. Those weren't the only 3 programs that didn't fill this year, there were others.
Joints is the most competitive fellowship by far. Spine will probably continue to ebb and flow, but is still not a very competitive field overall. Sure, the top spots are hyper-competitive in all fields including Peds. But for the most part, all spine applicants find a spot somewhere if they want one.
