Campbell's vs. Wiesel?? was created by sims
I was just flipping through Wiesel's Operative Techniques book thats in the library and it looks like a pretty good series, but I believe it is relatively new. I have enough points on the Synthes website to purchase one or the other and I'm just wondering if anyone has input on which one would be better for a junior resident if I could get either one? Thanks

Most of the residents in our program and some staff seem to prefer Wiesel. The comments I have heard are that Wiesel breaks down the indications and steps for specific procedures in a way that is easier to review the night before a case. Campbell's I think is very well written but my impression is that it can be harder to find what you are looking for in Campbell's when time is short.

With that said, I believe Wiesel's is available on Amazon kindle edition and Google books electronic versions as well, which may be more convenient for those of you who do most of your reading on tablets.

Campbells is the definitive text. Wiesel's is more a bullet point overview. In my opinion both are very useful, but for different reasons. Campbells provides more background and is more of a classic text (that every self-respecting orthopod should have by his desk), and Wiesel is more of a "crap I've got to read about this case" kind of book - high yield information in a abbreviated format that glosses over some important details from time to time.

In short, I think you need both. They are similar, but do not serve the same purpose.
