Synthes Resident Points was created by bonedoc321
I am starting my intern year in a few weeks and I was wondering how to get started with synthes points. I know that you only get so many points per year and they don't roll over. So, if possible I was going to start now to build up a library that might be more helpful for the years to come. Anyone have any input on the program? (how you register, when you can start, etc.)

1. You cannot start the program until you actually start residency. Your local synthes rep and/or your dept coordinator will have to pass your info along to synthes and verify it. So probably mid-July at the earliest.

2. Points roll over.

3. You can only use 800 points in a calendar year and you can only use points once every 3 months.

4. Enjoy your last month of freedom.

I had all the lectures done before even moving to my new city! Most guys still don't have them done because of the time it takes per topic. Call the synthes rep in the new area and they should be able to add you.
My thread is dated now becuase of new editions being released for some books.

How long ago did you begin residency? I am currently finishing my intern year and was unable to start until after I began my program. Due to the current crackdown on industry's relations with resident education, i feel that maybe this was possible in the past, but over the last year or two there have been many more regulations imposed on the companies, which is the reason why synthes can no longer get us lead and loupes as well as allow us to get started with the lectures until we join our residenceis officially...

It could be a regional thing as well...

Is anyone else contemplating buying their own lead?

first, figure out if your program buys you lead. Second, decide if wherever you operate at has sufficient lead. Only then should consider buying lead. I bought a thyroid shield b/c I found those difficult to come by. Don't waste your money early on. Save it for books, loupes, beers, etc.
