Best Book to Prep for Intern Year was created by rol_2010
Since it has been 7+ months since I've seen my last actual patient, I wanted to get a book to help refresh the basics of surgical patient management before starting intern year.

All I'm looking for is something with a good overview of managing electrolytes, fluids, low urine output, basic meds, and the other common issues that I will likely encounter on Day 1. I know I will pick it up pretty quick once I start taking care of patients, but just something with a good review of these concepts would be nice so I don't look like a complete tool the first week or so. Thanks.

A little more than the basics, but the Marino ICU book will answer all your questions and more.

And every one starts out as an idiot.

You can read all you want, but this is pretty much unavoidable. Just be very nice to your nurses, and be humble enough to ask them what you need to do in certain situations, and you'll be fine for the first week or two until you pick it all up for yourself.

Get Surgery Recall, go to Hawaii and leave it in the hotel room...then come to your internship. You'll be just as prepared as everyone else and you'll be fine
