Ortho Books for Intern Year. was created by orthojacket
Bout to start on July 1. I have been doing some reading out of Koval's fracture book and others. Do any of you guys have suggestions on good ortho books for interns to really get a good foundation and a head start on their ortho training?

Thanks

Still in the applying stage, but I have OKU 9, Handbook of Fxs, and Essentials of OrthoSurg (in addition to general anatomy texts) and find them to be very helpful. Miller's is WAY to dense and compacted. The didactics at your program should prepare you though...take your free time and relax. And congrats on matching...i look forward to being in your shoes next year.

I would suggest reading just a general ortho booked designed to give you a good overall background like Orthopaedic Surgery The Essentials or something similar. It's nice to have a background covering most of the subspecialties to build on. Then as you start your rotations in ortho, you can read deeper in those subspecialties. One other book I would suggest, but is a little painful to read is the Orthopedic Basic Science book. I read that as an intern and rocked the Basic Science questions on the OITE for the next five years.

I agree that Miller on not something to read as an intern. It's good to read just before the OITE or boards to jar out some of the stuff you have read through, but may have buried away in your brain somewhere.

The Baratz book is good, but in need of a new edition. It's probably getting pretty dated by now.
