Senior resident CALL was created by phillyhand
How many PGY-5 residents out there are taking primary call, in house or at home? Our program director thinks we have it too easy and wants to institute primary (non backup) call for PGY-5 residents for the first time in our program since the inception of the 80 hour work week. I am looking for any input or comments about this inquiry.

In house call is over after PGY-3 at the U. PGY-4/5 is home chief call, come in to help Jr. when needed and do cases. Still take first call, albeit home call at Children's.

We take chief call as R 4 and R 5's. Our R4 year has very little call on PEDS, Sports, Research, etc. I.e. 1 weekend per mo. Then you are q3 on hand for primary consults. You do all the spine consults in the daytime and every other week of night consults. On total joints you do all the day work, then take the night calls approx q3-4.

The R5 year is a little harder in terms of call. You are approx q4. This is all home call, so you do not go home the next day. This is good b/c you do not miss out on OR cases.
