ABOS PGY 1 requirements was created by pantel
Was recently offered a PGY 2 position. The general surgery program that I am in has been giving me a difficult time in trying to switch my schedule to meet the ABOS internship requirements. I think I will be about 2-3 months short. When I accepted the prelim surg position, they stated if I was offered a 2nd year spot they would work with me and that has not been the case so far. Any input or advice from previous experience would be great. Good luck to all in the match, I understand the anxiety and feel the pain

Replied by on topic hey man, was in the
hey man, was in the same situation, feel the pain.
did a gen surg categorical internship (with one mo ortho trauma); was able to get MICU credit for my transplant and CT months; vascular, NSU and trauma surgery count. only had to make up plastics and rads which are totally easy months anyway. my gen surg program told me the same thing and the one concession they did make was to give me an SICU month.
when you send your course descriptions to ABOS, be very detailed especially if you are trying to get credit for things that are not strictly included. if the program wants you, they will work things out, and 2 or so months is really not that big of a deal. plus it gives you a chance to study off service so you don't feel so retarded taking junior call for the first time. best of luck to you man, that whole situation was like a miracle for me and i could not be happier with the way everything turned out.
cheers.
