Bread-butter trauma cases was created by kkkkk
Which cases do you need to be ready to handle when you take ER call in practice? I will appreciate if someone could list the "bread-butter" trauma cases here. Thanks!

It depends upon your level of hospital. For my practice I frequently see;

Elderly hip fractures of all types
Ankle Fractures
Wrist Fractures
Scattered hand injuries
Infrequent elderly supracondylar fractures above a total knee
Pediatric forearm, wrist, and occasional elbow fracture
THA dislocation
Shoulder dislocation
Occasionaly infected prosthesis or other infections like septic bursitis

The top three cover about 90% of our ER stuff, but we have a level I trauma center across town that gets all of the high end trauma which is nice. So I rarely see a long bone injury or an open fracture.

In my ER, I usually see a lot of hip, wrist, femur, tibia and ankle fractures. We deal with a lot of heavy trauma, but we also see some a lot of sports injuries, mostly knee inuries. We´re talking about a portuguese district hospital.
