Two questions:

1. Anyone care to comment on why Helfet got canned from HSS?
2. Anyone care to comment on why Dines got canned from LIJ?

As a resident at LIJ, I hope that I can shed a little light on the situation.

The North Shore/LIJ health system has decided to fully integrate the departments of our two academic teaching hospitals. Stanley Asnis, the chairman at North Shore, and a very well established joint surgeon (Stryker ASNIS III screws, Biomet Rx90, etc.), has been named the chairman of the combined department. We all know Dr. Asnis well, and look forward to period of continued growth of both the department and residency program.

Dr. Dines is an unbeleivably talented surgeon, and remains a large part of our education. He has done wonders for our program and our department over the last decade of his leadership. He will continue to bring his expansive and complex list of cases for us to learn from him, and he will continue to be a mentor for all of us.

See previous post but to clarrify Dr. Helfet is still at HSS. I am one of his current trauma fellows so I can say for sure. They may ADD a trauma faculty and change around some titles but as of now Dr. Helfet is staying put.
