Approach to intern reading

Hi Everyone,

I was interested in starting a thread to see if I could get some opinions as to a good approach to ortho reading during the intern year. If I could get suggestions about what current residents/staff would recommend reading and how you approached it (how much time devoted on/off service, how did you organize your reading) that would be great. After the glorious fourth year of medical school this seems like a very daunting task and any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

the key is consistency. If you only read M-F and only 30 pages per day, in 52 weeks you can read almost 8000 pages. Now most people wont do anywhere near that much or be that regimented about it, but if you stick to it you can easily read rockwood and greens (adult and kids) by the end of your intern year. Something else to read would be Campbells Operative orthopedics

I would suggest reading an orthopedic overview text to give yourself a broad generalized knowledge base to build on. Something like Orthopedics: The Essentials. Once your have a little core knowledge, then drift out into more detailed texts
