which (and why if you are inclined) do you feel is essential for the 1st year (PGY 2) ortho resident?

B. Campbell's

Well, it depends upon your residency and what rotations you are doing. You obviously get broader coverage with Campbell's, however, you miss the details of a dedicated subspecialty book, but it will cover most general orthopedic topics. If you are trauma heavy and you actually have time to read on the trauma service then I would shoot for one of the trauma books. I personally like rockwood, but you may want to get the newest version available of either trauma books.
My Cambells got way more use during residency than my Rockwood ever did. Simply b/c I had no time to read on the trauma service and if I had time to look something up, it was usually in our resident library between cases.
