Does anyone have tips on how to maintain weight during residency? How do you arrange eating during a busy day, when you are moving from OR to OR?
I know the obvious answer is that one should eat breakfast, a snack and dinner, but how does it really all fit together?
In order to maintain weight, my husband has to eat a lot and lift weights. In the last year, he has kept up with some cardio, but hasn't had much time for or appetite for lifting. He has lost about 30-35 pounds (entirely of muscle). He eats a light breakfast before leaving the house and dinner, but he says that it is impossible for him to eat lunch most days. I am worried about the long term effects of his poor nutrition and reduced calorie intake. He says that most surgeons don't eat lunch. In my opinion, that is fine for them, but it is pretty clear that my husband needs those calories!! Any tips or advice would be helpful.
Thank you very much!
