Another company that makes quality loupes is Zeiss. Usually these are sold by a national or regional sales rep.
They are fully adjustable and not customized for your eyes or focal length, pupil distance, etc.
You'll find a wide variety of brands used by different specialists. I have Zeiss loupes and have been extremely satisfied with them in hand surgery cases. They don't seem to have a large enough focal distance for spine, though. The field of vision is billed as being much larger than Designs for Vision, but you'd have to try them out.
The beauty of the Zeiss loupes is that the company will send you a pair to try for free for 30 days.
Regarding your prescription, you have several options - 1) contacts, 2) built-in prescription, and 3) wear a head band attachment thing (an option for Zeiss) - this last one is the same headband used for adding a headlight.
I have a coke-bottle prescription, so I plan to wear contacts with mine. I can even rig up the loupes to be worn OVER my glasses if necessary.
Take a look at the Zeiss website to get a feel for their product. I have tried someone's DFV loupes for spine surgery and they worked well, but never got fitted for my own.
The Zeiss loupes will be about $1200, and that should be a reduced resident price of some kind.
