Ortho Intern Requirements was created by phillyortho
Hello All,
I was curious... there is some governing Orthopaedic Education body that mandates that even though all orthopaedic interns are controlled by general surgery during their intern year, there are certain requirements such as Radiology, Anesthesia they must complete. DOES ANYBODY KNOW EXACTLY what the requirements are? Which rotations must each ortho intern finish? Is there anywhere to find this info online? Thanks
PO

I read the link... basically what I get out of it is that we are
NOT REQUIRED TO DO ATLEAST A MONTH OF ORTHO OUR
INTERN YEAR?? The program I got into had advertised at
least one month... and now the surg dept says NO! They say
they need us the whole year esp cause now they have to
"GIVE US" anesthesia, rads, er.

I suggest you have a major chat with your residency program director. I believe that the vast majority of internships are now controlled by the orthopedic department as outlined by the ACGME. If they are not in control, then they are at risk for losing accreditation. I think it would be a shame to miss 1, 2, or even 3 months of ortho as an intern. It really makes the transition to PG2 much easier.

This is classic general surgery whining! Get use to it.

Good Luck.
