ABOS Part I Results

Here are some stats regarding the ABOS Part I written exam.

1999 845 Candidates 80% Pass 20% Fail
2000 778 Candidates 79% Pass 21% Fail
2001 789 Candidates 77% Pass 23% Fail
2002 805 Candidates 79% Pass 21% Fail
2003 760 Candidates 83% Pass 17% Fail

In 2003, the passing rate for first time US and Canadian test takers was 93.1% and for first time IMGs, 66.7%

In 2003, repeat US/Canadian takers had a passing rate of 40.3% and repeat IMG takers had a passing rate of 26.7%

So, make sure you pass it the first time when your odds are best.

2004 ABOS Results

2004 737 Candidates 88% Pass 12% Fail

The percent correct score for passing was 67.1%. The passing rate for first time takers both US and Canadian was 96.3%. International grads passed only 50%.

Repeat US/Canadian takers passed 45.9% while international repeaters passed only 20%.

2005 ABOS Results

2005 816 Candidates 84% Pass 16% Fail

The percent correct score for passing was 68.6%. The passing rate for first time takers both US and Canadian was 92.9%. International grads passed only 80%.

Repeat US/Canadian takers passed 28% while international repeaters passed only 0%.

2006 ABOS Results

2006 741 Candidates 87% Pass 13% Fail

The percent correct score for passing was 67%. The passing rate for first time takers both US and Canadian was 93.8%. International grads passing rate was 84.6%.

Repeat US/Canadian takers passed 44.9% while international repeaters passed only 33.3%.

out of curiousity, does anyone have any ideas on what percent right was needed to get a certain percentile score? something like "I got X percent right and that put me in the 75th percentile". I am just curious how tightly the scores are grouped (ie, what the std deviation is)
