The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Missouri invites applications to our Spine Fellowship position for the 2015-2016 academic year.

The department’s spine team consists of 2 fellowship-trained surgeons, a fellowship trained non-operative surgeon and an advanced practice nurse. The spine service line performs approximately 750 cases per year with the following case mix:

60% Degenerative
20% Trauma
15% Deformity
5% Tumor

Fellows spend 3 ½ to 4 days in the operating room with 1 to 1 ½ days spent in clinic and will take primary call with the orthopaedic spine attending as back-up. No in-house call is required. Fellows have access to a research support team and will be allowed to participate in specialty related meetings at the national level.

Fellows are given the opportunity to work in the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), the largest freestanding and most comprehensive orthopaedic surgery center in the region. MOI is home to more than 25 orthopaedic surgeons with clinics, operating rooms and private overnight patient rooms under one roof, along with some of the most progressive technology available allowing us to provide comprehensive orthopaedic care in one location.

Another huge benefit is the community. Columbia, home of the University of Missouri, was listed in the book 50 Fabulous Places to Raise Your Family and has been consistently recognized by national magazines such as Consumer’s Digest and Money as one of the top places to live in the U.S. Most people who choose to reside in this college town of more than 110,000 residents think of it as having the best of both worlds – small-town convenience and warmth with big-city sophistication and amenities. With a remarkably low cost of living compared to many U.S. cities, Columbia allows for a lifestyle hard to find in other areas.

The University of Missouri welcomes both Orthopaedic Surgery and Neurosurgery resident applications for this opportunity. More information on our program can be found at medicine.missouri.edu/ortho/orthoed/ .
