The Ranawat Orthopaedic Center for Joint Preservation and Reconstruction at the Hospital for Special Surgery, NY, has an opening position for a research assistant. This is a 1- or 2- year salaried position that will begin on November 2010 and is open to all candidates who will be medical school graduates by that time or trying to participate in research and publish prior to medical school. It presents a unique opportunity to work with Dr. Chitranjan Ranawat, worldwide known surgeon in the field of hip and knee reconstructive surgery at the most prestigious facility that is constantly ranked number one in orthopaedics in nation. This job is to assist with FDA trials of new devices, to gather and analyze data, to assist in study design, and to prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. This is an excellent way to improve your CV.
Responsibilities:
1. Collection and management the data base and registry
2. All IRB communication and related issues
3. Follow-through and completion of clinical research projects, book chapters posters, PowerPoint presentations and educational videos.
4. Functioning of all equipment used in research
5. Obtain articles, citations, and other published information
6. Screen and recruit new patients.
7. Weekly research minutes
Preferred candidates:
Pre-meds, graduate students or medical graduates with a strong background in statistics, comfortable proof reading and checking for grammatical errors, able to work comfortably with excel, office PowerPoint and word documents and interested in conducting clinical research in the field of orthopaedics with focus on hip and knee reconstruction and preservation.

I am looking to do a year of research to boost up my application for ortho residencies. I would like to clarify on a few points
1. I wonder if this it is going to help me bring out publications.
