The University Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation (UOREF) is offering a one-year fellowship in orthopaedic research. The fellowship runs from June 1, 2010 through June 15, 2011. The fellow would manage 6-9 clinical research projects under one-on-one mentorship from orthopaedic faculty at the University of Cincinnati. The fellow would be expected to submit and present abstracts at annual meetings and prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. The fellow would attend the 2011 American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons Annual Meeting in San Diego; all travel expenses would be covered. This is a paid position of $30,000 per fellowship year with full-time benefits and 2-weeks paid vacation.
The clinical responsibilities are limited to seeing research patients in the hospital as well as in the clinic. The fellow is encouraged to attend conferences, Grand Rounds and journal club in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. The fellow would be encouraged to participate in projects in all divisions of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. Activities would include research planning and design, data collection and analysis, and manuscript preparation and submission. For the self-directed, motivated individual, this can be a very productive year. In addition to improving your research skills in an academic environment, the goal of the program is to have the fellow, with full-time research experience and strong letters of recommendation, successfully match into an Orthopaedic Surgery Residency position.
