Kerry Danelson, PhD; Associate Professor and Vice-Chair of Research, MSKI
Are you interested in spending a year doing research, gaining publications, and making connections in the orthopedic surgical community?
Kerry Danelson, PhD is seeking an ambitious medical student, between 3rd and 4th Year, who is interested in clinical and basic science research to help coordinate multiple projects, be involved in data collection, analysis, and writing. This unique position provides a (blend of (80%) research and (20%) clinical) comprehensive experience.
Specifically, this is a flexible one-year opportunity focused on producing publishable manuscripts, spending time in the clinic and operating room, as well as learn how to conduct clinical and basic research. The student will spend time with multiple faculty members and interact with residents and medical students. Attendance to all educational opportunities within the organization (Grand Rounds, weekly resident lectures, labs, journal clubs, etc.) is highly encouraged. Additional goals include providing the intern with broad exposure to orthopaedics prior to residency and building strategic relationships within the profession. The intern will have regular meetings with faculty and can expect support and guidance toward achieving their career goals.
Prerequisites:
Ability to start on campus within the recommended time frame
Successful completion of 3rd year of medical school prior to start date
Strong motivation for a career in orthopaedic surgery
Strong academic record
Must be organized, detail oriented and able to work independently
Experience with statistical analysis is highly recommended but not required

Interns per year 1
Position Title: Student Intern
Duration: 1 year
Who: Medical students between 3rd and 4th Year.
Where: Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Winston-Salem, NC
When: Beginning June – July 2023
Salary: The current stipend is $30,000 divided over 12 months.
Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year are being accepted for one position. Interviews and acceptances will be offered on a rolling basis. Earlier application submission is strongly advised.
