Hi everyone,

Wanted to get peoples thoughts on the number of interviews we should go on. I'm trying to decide where to draw the line, but I feel bad canceling interviews.

Thanks

I don't know if there is a cut off number but I will be going to every interview. I definitely don't have 16+ interviews but I feel comfortable with the number I have received.

I attended 18 interviews. I had to miss 2 of my invitations due to schedule conflicts and I cancelled my last interview because I knew I didn't want to end up at that program. I matched at #10, so I'm glad I went on as many as I could.

Look at the NRMP data from last year's match. About 13 interviews put you at around a 95% chance of matching. This may help.

That's amazing...throughout my entire application/interview process I've never met anyone who matched number 10 - good for you for going to all those interviews. I had a similar philosophy - I had 14 offers and attended 12 interviews. I only missed the two because of scheduling conflicts. I ranked EVERY program I attended - even those I didn't like because I would rather have matched ortho anywhere than to have NOT matched.

For everyone else reading. Don't take anything for granted. A couple of guys in my class had 12-14 invites but ended up only going to six or so. They were confident enough that they would match in their top three they just didn't see the need in going to more. Fortunately for them, things worked out. But, what if they hadn't? I would've had a lot of regret knowing I had 5-6 more offers but was too cocky to go.
