Just curious about how people feel about the Penn State program with all this mess going on over there.

I would imagine that this stuff doesn't affect the Ortho program that much, but then again there could be a cause for concern about the institution as a whole.

It has had the same impact that the Reggie Bush scandal had on the USC ortho program. What an idiotic question.

Personally, If I was going to refer to someones question as “idiotic”, I would make sure I didn’t write an idiotic response.

The fact that you feel that the Reggie bush issue is analagous to Child Molestation/cover up charges is quite disturbing.

If you read my entire question, I acknowledge that it is not likely to affect the ortho program. But if you don’t think it affects the Penn St. institution as a whole your out of your mind. Since this story leaked, I personally have talked to 10-15 ppl who said that they would never let their kids go to Penn St. I’m sure many ppl out there have heard similar things. The reality is, these allegations do damage the reputation of the school. The effects can be widespread (getting grants, attracting new faculty). Quite frankly, it is not too much of a stretch to think that parents might urge their kids to go to a different medical school if given the option between Penn St. and a comparable med school or a medical student might rank a comparable ortho program ahead of Penn St. because of the damage done to the reputation of the school. However, it is not something that would change where I ranked the program.

In my opinion, this is a pretty serious issue that goes beyond the relm of football. Definitely not something that we should be joking around about.

Way to take an isolated incident and broadly apply it to an entire institution. I mean, they obviously promote child touching there since one guy did it and a couple others didn't take the proper recourse. If people don't want their kids to go to Penn State for moral reasons that's their right. But you can't tell me this will change the education. Just like American society, sensationalism.

I don't believe it will change the education at all. Its a great school and I hope it will remain that way.
But come on man, sodomy is a lot more than "touching". This is definitely not an isolated incident. Idk if you have been watching the news but there are quite a few kids who were victims over a long period of time. Also when there is the possibility of a cover up that goes all the way up to the President of the University, it does apply to the entire institution. I got a feeling this situation is gonna get really messy. So whether you are applying to Penn state for their undergrad, or for there Residency program, it would be irresponsible not to consider what is currently going on at the institution before you decided to attend there.
