Funny I got rejected from UNM and I have no freaking clue what a letter of intent is. Did I just waste $25? Any other programs I'm applied to that requires some other goofy thing on top of the normal stuff? I was sure to send in my handwritten personal statement to Wichita...

From what I can tell, it's a letter stating why you want to go there. I guess they want to limit their candidates to people with really good reasons to go there. Kind of narrow-minded if you ask me. But they didn't.

Annoying, I even tried to go to their website and couldn't find mention of some stupid letter. Oh well, at least I spared myself the time spent writing about how much I want to live in Albuquerque. meh

There's a recent post about this around here somewhere (either on the front page of this "interview" forum, or the general residency forum). I'm not sure how comprehensive it is... In an case, it'll be interesting to see how many of those "extra requirements" really matter. I have now spoken to several current residents who have told me that they received interviews at places that "require" supplemental forms from LOR writers, despite the fact that they never turned in any such forms. Now we have people stating that UNM is sending out invites prior to the LOI being submitted... it's all kind of funny... but how many among us are going to take the chance of not jumping through those extra hoops?

Don't get me wrong. UNM extended the invitation without my LOI, but they made sure to include it in their invitation. Something to the effect of " If you haven't already sent us your LOI please do so before the interview..."
