I am usually relaxed in such times but i'm starting to worrying that some thing must have gone wrong with my application. I will be brief:

Step 1; 259, AOA, Honors in all 2nd year classes and 3rd year clerckships, letter writers said i did a "great/fantastic" job! Six publications (5 in peer reviewed top basic science journals and 1 first author book chapter), I was a Division I college athlete. Not from top/big name med school!

I have received over 10 rejections (2 interview) and 30/50 schools I applied to have already given out interviews.

I even know other applicants from my own school that where offered these interviews and do not have my scores, AOA or publications!! I am at a loss as to what is going on. Why am I getting rejected from most programs, including the top and avg programs???? anyone else experiencing this???

It often seems like a total crapshoot why 1 applicant gets an invite over another. I suspect that more interviews are on their way. I recieved many of my interview invites starting late November, so they are still being sent out. My program still has the stack of applicant files sitting out to go through

Stay patient and stay positive. Unless you have something negative in one of your letters, u should be fine.

Best of Luck!

Replied by on topic I wouldn't think too much
I wouldn't think too much of it. It really depends on a lot of things.. including a big chunk of luck.

IE when you applied, where you applied, what region you applied.

I think a good chunk of west coast places have yet to send anything out.

A lot of places have waves of interviews. No news is good news.. you may be part of the second wave.

Remember, these places are getting 500 applicants.. It's mid november.. and the applications were technically complete by Nov 1st.. That's reviewing ~25 apps per day... that's a lot! Would you want to review that many apps thoroughly?

I'm batting a 1:1 average for interviews. I applied to 65 places, I have heard from 20 places.

It's really a crap shoot. I'd imagine within the next two weeks your life is going to be crazy.. unless you're an asshole.

Replied by on topic I agree with the above
I agree with the above posts... We should not get disappointed that early... There will be a second wave of interview invitations, as there will also be interview spots that will become available as applicants cancel them mostly because of conflicting dates... And in addition, many programs haven't sent out invitations yet... I am a FMG, with great US-LORs, great step 1 scores, 40+ pubmed publications (among many other things) and I've already gotten 20 rejections in a row. Of course being FMG is a "special case", but I know I am very good and I am confident that everything will ultimately work out for the best. I think it's just too early for us to lose hope at this point...
