priapism and dawg,
This question has been haunting me since I began the morning ritual of checking my email for rejection letters about a month ago. If I were really such a strong candidate, then you would have interviewed me, wouldn't you? In order to shed light on this subject, I will quote today's rejection (davis) in the minds of the writers:

"Dear Applicant:

Your application for a residency position in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of California Davis has been reviewed because for some reason our staff neglected to notice your pitifully low step 1 score and direct it to the garbage immediately. Although you are a very competitive applicant for a family medicine residency, we are unable to extend an invitation to interview in a field that actualy requires you to work during medical school.

Thank you for your interest in our program, reading your application gave us the kind of laugh we really need this time of year! Please accept our best wishes for your continued education in the specialty of Orthopaedic Surgery, to provide our residents the opportunity to learn revision procedures.

Sincerely,

UCD

p.s. the "D" stands for "Denied!"

I am loving the sarcasm...I just finished step2 --hopefully thats the last time I have to think about all the ways a vagina can bleed or what a 75 year old woman's uterus should look like.....

This experience has been difficult and trying....and I have learned that if your from the midwest....it dosent matter what kind of scores/grades/letters u have....if your school dosent have an "ivy" in it you get tossed into the community college stack of files....

I wish I knew this I could have saved a few hundred bucks and bought a lot of beer....so if any third year med students are reading this.....just apply to all the midwest places get interviews and save all the application money you would have spent on applying to the east coast schools and throw yourself one hell of a bash when you match......
