I'll be starting a gen-surg prelim this summer at a program with an ortho residency after not matching for the first time. I would like to know what the attendings would like to see in someone like myself.

My problem was my step 1 didn't meet many of the cutoffs and I got very few interviews. Going to reapply and look for pgy2 spots this year.

My plan for this year is to keep doing what i've been doing of working hard and being pleasant, and just try and network and ask others to make calls for me and go to bat for me. I just feel like I didn't pursue that avenue hard enough this past year and as a result no one would even look at my application. Trying to prove that I am/will be a much better physician than step I indicates.

Thanks in advance.
