Recently our 6-yr Orthopaedic Residency Program was approved for an increase from 4 to 5 residents per year. In addition to increasing our match number from 4 to 5, we have also been approved to add to our R2 (research year) and R3 (PGY2) positions. Interested residents currently in a one year preliminary surgery training position are invited to contact me directly via e-mail and should include the following: USMLE step 1 and 2 scores, a current CV, and a list of current preliminary surgery PGY 1 rotations.
Please note that your preliminary rotations may not satisfy the orthopaedic surgery PGY1 requirements, which are as follows:
a. a minimum of six months of structured education in monthly rotations of surgery to include multisystem trauma, plastic surgery/burn care, surgical intensive care, and vascular surgery;
b. a minimum of one month of structured education in at least three of the following: emergency medicine, medical/cardiac intensive care, internal medicine, neurology, neurological surgery, rheumatology, anesthesiology, musculoskeletal imaging, and rehabilitation;
c. a maximum of three months of orthopaedic surgery.
The requirements to apply for our open R2 and R3 positions are as follows:
R2 â completion of a minimum of 8 of the 9 months (6 months required surgery/3 months required electives) needed to fulfill the orthopaedic surgery PGY1 requirements at the conclusion of your preliminary surgery year.
R3 â completion of all of the orthopaedic surgery PGY1 requirements at the conclusion of your preliminary surgery year and prior (medical school or residency) experience in basic science or clinical research.
Unfortunately, those lacking the required PGY1 rotations cannot be considered. We expect to fill these positions rather quickly. If selected for interview we will need access to your current ERAS application.
