Swap my Radiology for your Ortho PGY-2 in 2011? was created by mlvonmuehlenberg
Hi, I am currently doing my intern year and I am interested in swapping with someone for an Orthopedic Surgery residency PGY-2 position beginning July 2011. I am matched to a very prestigious Radiology residency program on the West Coast. While on the interview trail for Radiology, I met several ortho residents who were disillusioned and wanting to switch to Radiology. Most of them had to give up years, though. I'm hoping we can make this happen without losing any years for both of us!

I will consider swapping with anyone in any Ortho residency program, including community programs or programs in undesirable locations.

Please reply to this post and leave an e-mail address so I can respond. Thank you!

No need to get nasty.. I've seen/heard plenty of ortho 1's and 2's quit for rads/anesthesia/etc; and in the process, screwing both the ortho program AND the person who could have matched into that ortho spot instead

mlvonmuehlenberg's suggestion is providing a win/win situation, IMHO I would like to see this more then some ortho intern quiting in June and forcing the program to scramble to fill a spot

On another note, I'm in a similar situation. I always wanted ortho but never managed to get in. After 3 attempts, I resigned myself to something else and have found myself in an Anesthesiology program starting in 2011. I would still love to trade with someone's ortho position. Its a highly ranked program in Texas, pm for more details. Like mlovonmuehlenberg, I'm willing to go anywhere to any ortho program..

Did you ever find that ortho spot? I am currently a PGY-1 at competitive NYC program. Looking to do radiology, however given the fact I have responsibilities as a father/husband I cannot just take the year off and reapply. I plan on finishing up this year and if someone had a good radiology spot(pgy-2 of course) that had information on swapping I would be interested to hear about it.

What was the reason for your decision? Just curious. I can't imagine making that change. Did you have doubts about ortho before the match?
