Hi Guys,
I am looking for a PGY-1 Ortho spot starting July 2010.

Currently, I have a surgical preliminary spot in a flagship hospital for a world-renowned medical center...but I'd prefer Ortho anywhere.

Please PM or reply if you would like to leave a categorical spot that you have or would like to swap.

THANKS!

The hospital is in a Northeast metropolis with everything to do, tons of students and professionals in their twenties/thirties, and endless medical and surgical connections to be made. Some people may not want to stay at just any ortho program that they don't like, or a program in a small, out-of-way, dull town. Seems like a reasonable trade-off.

You do realize that if someone who matches turns down the offer they cannot re-enter the match for 3 years? I would think that would discourage alot of people from considering your offer.

I am not offering anything shady. It's either a swap...or someone leaving an Ortho program for another program/field. There are personal circumstances that arise. It's not like the PD's will be left out of the loop. There are legitimate avenues for this. No-one will get reported to the match.

You're either misinformed or have miscommunicated what you're offering. This is hardly a fair trade-off. You offer a general surgery preliminary position (which is a 1-year job with no guarantees for anything after that) in exchange for a 5-year (or in some research instances, 6 or 7 years) categorical orthopedic position. Nobody in their right mind would agree to this, and on top of that no program director would approve. Hapless hack is right in that somone who just matched would commit career suicide if they accepted this offer.

As far as a prestigious prelim spot at a world-renowed medical center...join the hundreds of others with the same background seeking the same ortho position. Nobody is going to hand you a categorical ortho spot for nothing (which is pretty much what you've offered in a prelim general surgery spot; we love ortho too much and residents wouldn't pass up the opportunity because they "may not want to stay at just any ortho program that they don't like, or a program in a small, out-of-way, dull town").
