Essential Functions:

  • -Work requires knowledge of science instruction, as well as excellent communication and administrative skills to plan lab activities, maintain current materials, schedule coverage, problem solve and coordinate the day-to-day operations of the Eagan Bioskills lab.
  • -Provides technical expertise to researchers, faculty, staff, and/or students and responds to technical questions; teaches, trains, and demonstrates laboratory/research protocols and methods, proper use of equipment and machinery, and appropriate safety procedures.
  • -Designs, builds, tests, installs, and/or maintains complex, technical, laboratory equipment and systems, which may include lasers, fabrication technology, robotics, materials test systems, and/or other related equipment, as required.
  • -Develops quality standards and programs; monitors and maintains quality of laboratory operations and performance of laboratory staff in compliance with accreditation standards, safety and environmental regulations, and other applicable requirements.
  • -Ensures laboratory safety and verifies that all laboratory participants have completed applicable safety training; monitors activities to ensure compliance to established safety standards and executes appropriate interventions when necessary.
  • -Maintains and/or oversees maintenance and testing of equipment and instruments to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and safety of performance.
  • -Maintains supplies and equipment inventories; orders supplies and equipment for the laboratory.
  • -Assists with ordering, proper utilization, and disposal of cadaveric joints as needed for the bioskills and research lab
  • -Could assist in the annual budget planning process and regularly monitors expenditures.
  • -May design and coordinate the planning and performance of complex laboratory experiments, ensuring adherence to protocols and safety regulations; oversees troubleshooting and correction of experimental errors.
  • -May provide and/or oversee the provision of technical services to various constituencies; collects and logs service fees, according to appropriate departmental procedures.
  • -Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art digital technologies, equipment, machinery and/or systems.
  • -Responds to all inquiries relative to the department's research and fellowship program.
  • -Perform a wide variety of administrative duties to ensure proper functioning of the lab.
  • -Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. --Work is closely managed.
  • -Provides support in the selection and implementation of research studies.
  • -Maintains data integrity and comprehensive data definitions.
  • -Provides support in the selection and implementation of research studies
  • -Data collection and data entry
  • -Interact with and occasionally directly supervise research interns, visiting scholars and international visiting faculty
  • -Write results of work in the form of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications
  • -Present results of work in the form of abstracts, and oral or poster presentations
  • -Support faculty physicians and fellows with Educational activities for regional, national and international meetings
  • -Collaborates with other team members to deliver solid, effective solutions.
  • -Occasionally participate in community functions relating to Research outreach events throughout the year.
  • -Occasionally participate in community functions relating to The Bone and Joint Center outreach events throughout the year.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned

 

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • -Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services, Research of other scientific related field
  • -Advanced knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office Software required
  • 1- year of experience preferred
  • -Experience as a lab assistant using lab tools and equipment
  • -A willingness to learn necessary federal and state rules governing cadaver procurement/maintenance.

  • -Prioritize workload while being flexible to meet the expectations of the daily operations

  • -Effectively operate equipment and communicate on and operate the phone system
  • -Work independently with minimal supervision
  • -Travel to other work locations, if required
