Dear Medical Students,
We are currently looking for 2 full-time medical student research fellows for the 2021-2022 academic year. All medical students with an interest in orthopaedic surgery — who are willing to commit a minimum of 1 year — will be considered eligible for these positions.
Students will have the opportunity to interact and work with attending faculty on a weekly basis under the direct guidance of a faculty mentor. Students are expected to complete a minimum of 3 research projects, including 1 first-author publication. Directed mentoring will focus on designing research projects, navigating the IRB process, data analysis, manuscript writing, and applying for grant funding. Attendance of bi-weekly didactic modules, monthly journal clubs, and weekly core curriculum lectures on various orthopaedic topics will also be encouraged. Research fellows will also have the opportunity to observe orthopaedic procedures in the operating room and attend cadaver labs (this may be subject to change given the evolving nature of the COVID-19 pandemic).
Prior research fellows have been grant recipients, given international talks, and have published in major orthopaedic journals as first author. All prior Keck Research fellows have matched into an orthopaedic surgery residency program. Funding will be provided through the Keck School of Medicine Dean’s Research Scholar Program.
Interviews for this position will be conducted during the last week of December and the 1st week of January and decisions will be announced by January 8th.
