MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct research under the direction of BioMedical Engineering Director and investigators.
- Collaborate with investigators and BioMedical Engineering staff to design sound research methodology and standard operating procedures.
- Perform and oversee data collection, database development, and analysis of multiple concurrent studies; provide proper documentation and organization to ensure integrity and organization of collected
- data.
- Apply basic statistical knowledge and understand, interpret, and describe complex data by preparing graphs and tables.
- Ensure timely collection of study documentation by obtaining, maintaining and controlling all necessary records and documentation according to procedures and regulations.
- Complete research documents in a professional and coherent manner with minimal oversight.
- Submit, present, and publish scientific works; assist in the review and preparation of all manuscripts and abstracts for publication.
- Work independently on daily work goals; receive general instructions on new assignments.
- Provide research updates to investigators, management and staff; is expected to identify issues and suggest potential solutions.
- Attend regular staff meetings and other required meetings.
- Support and assist with the coordination of departmental meetings or events.
- Establish and maintain communication with orthopaedic research and development professionals.
- Work with investigators to maintain an active, world-class research program.
- Assist BioMedical Engineering staff with research activities including presentations, handouts, publications, etc.
- Perform other duties as assigned or as may be necessary by supervisor.
- Access and use minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.
- Maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form which may jeopardize the privacy of patients.
- Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights.
- Adhere to SPRI safety policy and procedure and contribute to a climate of safety awareness in the labs.
- Maintain a personal commitment to the Steadman Philippon Research Institute mission and values.

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's degree in human movement science (biomechanics, kinesiology), or relevant engineering degree (biomedical, mechanical, electrical, computer) required.
- Experience in a biomechanics laboratory, with commonly used biomechanical tools and analytical methods preferred.
- Research experience necessary either through previous internship, work experience, or course work; practical knowledge about the conduct of research principals required.
- Must be flexible and adaptable to unexpected changes and possess strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and writing skills.
- Should be a self-starter with willingness to make decisions independently and solve problems creatively within job scope.
- Ability to represent SPRI in a mature and professional manner.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Knowledge of basic statistical software preferred.
- Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information, and exercise good professional judgment.
