OITE 2009 And Ninja Moderation was created by legless
I posted my take on the 2009 examination and how it was so incredibly easy to bypass the, *ahem*, security of the exam and get 100% simply by reading the answers.

I didn't give any details on how to do this, but, to be honest, a 16-year old could have figured it out.

But, rather than opening a discussion on the topic, the mods deleted my post (and didn't say a word to me).

So it looks like, rather than defend a *seriously* flawed effort at an exam, the mods will simply stifle any discussion and hope nobody notices how easy it is to cheat. Yeah - that'll work.

I await the mods replies with interest.

Cheers

I couldn't agree with you more. This forum should not be censored in this setting... unfortunatey the truth is the truth here people. However, there certainly is no advantage of "cheating" on the OITE.... so you get a 100%.... whoop de do.... now go fail the boards genius....

This has apparently caused quite a s*$# storm with the academy though. First they roll it out prior to it being tested and truly ready and then find out their security was nil... completely rediculous.

yeah, i know what you mean. i can't believe the academy thought orthopaedic residents had the integrity not to try to circumvent the security and just take the test as it was presented. what were they thinking?

cheers.

then why did the Academy attempt to build in so much security in the first place?

All of the crashes that took place were down to this lame attempt to not allow any other program to have "focus". If the Academy trusts you that much then it would have been trivial to write a decent Flash application that would have run on any OS.

If there's an easy way to cheat, someone, somewhere will do it. You're doctors not Saints.

Replied by on topic If you're going to include
If you're going to include the answers with the disk you have to have some kind of security. There a couple of thousand people writing the thing and it doesn't matter who you are, something like 5% of people in any profession will cheat if it gets them ahead.

Anyway, it was clearly a retarded oversight. It wasn't like there was even any kind of hacking you needed to do to get the answers, you just clicked a button and there they were. You could easily find it completely by accident. I'm from a program where the OITE is only for your own benefit to see your progress so cheating would be pointless but apparently there are places where it counts for something.

I can't imagine anything will possibly be "done" about it, next year they'll probably just have to send out the answers later like they used to to avoid the possibility of the thing getting hacked. I have to say I preferred doing it on computer (fifth year writing it), but it might just be because it finally seemed like I was getting most of the answers right for a change.

Replied by on topic My take on this...if you
My take on this...if you cheat on the OITE, whether intentionally or whether you stumbled onto the answer sheet, you're a pretty big loser. Regardless of helping or not helping you in your program, anyone with any integrity would find this out and shut it down and take the test for real with no outstide assistance.

However, I do understand why the Academy has their panties in a bunch over it. They want thier test taken seriously and the answers showing up on a message board while people are still taking this test isn't exactly a vote of confidence for them. They have no one to blame but themselves for this though. Bottom line, from our perspective, doesn't matter, we should all take it the same either way and have the personal integrity to treat the whole process with respect.

I thought the computer format was outstanding, the whole answer glitch notwithstanding. I really underestimate how nice it was to not have to flip back and forth through the picture book.
