Gettin' the Vibe was created by segal
After going through a few interviews, I am having a difficult time knowing if I have a chance at these programs. I haven't picked up a sense either way how the interviews went. I have spoken with friends applying to other specialties and they have gotten more straightforward signs from the interviewers.

1) Can anyone comment on some of the signs they have gotten from their interviews and what they mean?

2) Do most people know if they have a shot after an interview, or is it usually up in the air until the Match?

Thanks

You'll give yourself an aneurysm if you try to read into your interviews. Just go in there, do your thing, and get out. Then make your rank list and wait for match day.

When I was at my first med school interview at a prestigious ivy league institution, I had an old bear professor type tell me that the old school way of letting applicants know whether or not they had a chance was hidden in the last few words said to the applicant. If you were asked if you needed any help getting out of town - a ride to the airport - this meant that he didn't want you back.

At the end of our interview he asked if he could call a cab for me.

Honestly, I haven't gotten much in the way of direct feedback. Most of the time, it's just:

"It was nice to meet you, good luck with the rest of interview season."

or

"Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions."

I had one guy that did tell me that I would get ranked highly if the "rest of my interviews went well" - which was nice to hear... but you have to take that stuff with a grain of salt.

I really don't think you'll get a "vibe" most of the time. Programs that want to let you know that you're a big deal will probably call/e-mail right before ranks go out. But, honestly, most probably won't say anything.

Don't some programs call their top ranks after they create their rank list? I heard that uconn does this. I don't know if it is only a rumor or what.
