I was wondering if anyone had any data (or just wanted to speculate) on how frequent it is for applicants to match at their #1 choice in this competitive field.
I would suspect that the chances are lower in ortho than for the overall match but I could be wrong.

I think this is wholly dependent on what you rank as #1 and how competitive you are as a candidate. I agree, though, that it is probably less than most specialties (especially because of the relatively small program sizes).
