Anyone from NY (esp NYC) have any info on how the recently suggested hospital closures in NY would affect any training programs? It didn't look like there were any major recommendations that would affect training, but not being from NY I couldn't be sure. I'm hoping to do aways up in NYC next fall and eventually train up there so any news would be great!!

From what I understand, the hospitals that are closing are all very small, privately owned community hospitals and I don't think they will effect any training programs. If anything, some of the teaching hospitals have been talking about buying some of the closing hospitals, which may provide more work for some residents (although I doubt this will effect ortho). One example is that Maimonides is currently talking about buying Victory Memorial Hospital (one of the small hospitals closing in Bay Ridge Brooklyn) and they intend on making it several private offices, a rehab facility, and perhaps a spill over ER.
