non-ortho 4th year electives

If you can score it and your institution has it, I would try and do a month of musculoskeletal radiology. It would be a light month and will come in handy when you start your ortho rotations.

four months on the beach if you can do it...you will get plenty of ortho training once you get into a residency.....trust someone who has been through 55 months of residency. Those fourth year rotations have little effect on your training, or preparedness for internship.

If you cant speak it already... take some spanish classes. No matter where you end up, you'll likely run into some spanish-only speaking patients. Knowing a little bit really can help with getting a timely H and P. If you are decent, you can even consent which can be a real timesaver. Its also another reason to visit someplace with a lots of beaches.

That's a great idea. But I don't think my school has Spanish classes. Do other med schools?

I took advanced gross anatomy as my last elective in med school. It was strictly dissection on my own on my own time. I did it with one of my friends who was going into Gsurg. We'd go in for a couple of hours in the morning and then go fishing or hit the beach in the afternoon.
