For people who didn't match, got into ortho late, etc, a great research opportunity: UCSD 2-year NIH Training grant in orthopaedic surgery. It's for 2 years of research (not necessarily contiguous), so it means it will be 7 years by the time you become an orthopod. It lines you up well for academics, is a prestigious position, and is a lot of fun.

Paid well by the NIH, counts as a fellowship (ie no need to repay loans), located in San Diego.

Email your CV to Dr. Lieber ([url=mailto]rlieber@ucsd.edu[/url]). Update your CV with board scores, class rank, pubs, etc. Also write that you're aware of the 2-year commitment. There are 2 paid positions. They usually interview in April.
