I'm very much interested in the Manhattan programs(ie columbia, HJD, Mount Sinai, HSS, etc) but I'm not sure if I can make it on a resident's salary. Most programs there seem to offer "subsidized housing" but does anyone have any real numbers as to how much housing is. Quick glance at craigslist shows a tiny 1BR in Manhattan to be around $2000. Also just to get a rough idea, after all taxes(federal, state, income, NYC tax, how much does it approximately come to per month?

Here at HSS you can definitely make it on a resident's salary given the very generous housing subsidy.
We have residents here with a wife and 2+ kids who are solo income for the household and are doing fine. Single residents definitely need not worry.

Not sure about the other NYC programs. good luck!
