Hey all- random question: if a med student decided to switch interests to gen surg but has several first-author ortho publications, will gen surg programs still appreciate those publications? Or would the ortho research be useless? Thanks.

Thanks for the useful reply- I'm serious, I know if I switch to rad onc for example, my ortho research wouldn't be very useful. I'm just trying to figure out how useful ortho research is outside of the ortho field. Thanks for any helpful thoughts.

while i am not in the position to be evaluating applications, what i have gathered over the years is that:

research in your chosen field > research in another field > no research
